What is CSR?

The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not easy to define. It is an umbrella concept that comprises all business contributions to sustainable development. It encompasses the Triple Bottom Line or 3 Ps: People, Planet and Profit. It involves voluntary initiatives from companies to go beyond legal requirements. It relates to added value and strategy as CSR represents more than just idealism and delivers tangible results. It demands anticipation of rapid changes in the economy and in society. It requires action and innovation. It is a complex issue as CSR must take into account many different stakeholders, who often have conflicting interests and expectations.
